Fertomid Tablets (Generic Clomid) - Active Ingredient And Chemical structure

The active ingredient contained in Fertomid Tablets is Clomiphene Citrate. Clomiphene citrate is a white to pale yellow crystalline powder which is essentially odorless. It is freely soluble in methanol; soluble in ethanol; slightly soluble in acetone, water, and chloroform. The structure is shown below

Fertomid Tablets manufactured by Cipla Ltd., India is an effective treatment for patients with persistent ovulatory dysfunction. Clomid which has the active ingredient Clomiphene Citrate is also sold as Serophene, Milophene, Clomifert and under various other brand names.


Clomiphene Citrate - Uses

Clomiphene Citrate in the form of Fertomid Tablets is used for induction of ovulation in patients with persistent ovulatory dysfunction who desire pregnancy. Fertomid can be used to make an irregularly ovulating woman ovulate regularly.
Fertomid is useful in the treatment of oligomenorrhoea, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, amenorrhoea, post pill menorrhoea, Stein Leventhal syndrome (polycystic ovarian diseases), and Chiari Frommel syndrome.


Fertomid Tablets - Preparations

Fertomid (Generic Clomid) is available as tablets of 25 mg and 50 mg.


Fertomid Tablets (Clomiphene Citrate) - Storage Requirements

Fertomid Tablets are to be stored at room temperature (15°C to 30°C). Store Clomiphene away from heat, moisture, and light.


Contraindications Of Fertomid Tablets

Fertomid Tablets (Generic Clomid) are contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity or allergy to clomiphene citrate or to any of its inactive ingredients.


Fertomid Tablets - Dosage

For the treatment of Female infertility One tablet of Fertomid 50 mg is to be administered daily for five days starting on the 5th day of the menstrual cycle. If ovulation does not appear to have occurred, a second course of two tablets of Fertomid 50 mg daily (in a single dose) for five days should be administered starting from the fifth day of the next cycle.


Side Effects Of Fertomid Tablets

The most common side effects of Fertomid Tablets (Clomiphene Citrate) are Ovarian Enlargement, Vasomotor Flushes, Abdominal-Pelvic Discomfort/Distention/Bloating, Nausea and Vomiting, Breast Discomfort, Blurred vision, lights, floaters, waves, unspecified visual complaints, photophobia, diplopia, scotomata, phosphenes, Headache, Abnormal Uterine Bleeding, Intermenstrual spotting, menorrhagia. Less common side effects that may occur are Acute abdomen, appetite increase, constipation, dermatitis or rash, depression, diarrhoea, dizziness, fatigue, hair loss/dry hair, increased urinary frequency/volume, insomnia, light-headedness, nervous tension, vaginal dryness, vertigo, weight gain/loss.
