Generic Pamelor (Nortriptyline Hydrochloride) - Uses


Generic Pamelor in the form of Sensival tablets and Primox tablets are used as an effective treatment for major depression. They are also used to treat childhood nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting). In addition, Generic Pamelor is also used sometimes for chronic illnesses such as chronic fatigue syndrome, chronic pain and migraines, and labile affect in some neurological conditions.


Generic Pamelor (Nortriptyline Hydrochloride) Dosage


The usual Adult Dose for generic Pamelor (Sensival and Primox) is 25 mg three or four times daily. The dosage should start at a low level and be increased if necessary. The maximum dose should not exceed 150 mg/day. In case of Elderly or Adolescent Patients, the dosage should be 30 to 50 mg/day, in divided doses, or the total daily dosage may optionally be given once a day.


Side Effects Of Generic Pamelor (Nortriptyline Hydrochloride)


Patients hypersensitive to Nortriptyline HCl should not be given Primox and Sensival.The side effects of Generic Pamelor are

Cardiovascular - Hypotension, hypertension, tachycardia, palpitation, myocardial infarction, arrhythmias, heart block, stroke.

Psychiatric - Confusional states (especially in the elderly) with hallucinations, disorientation, delusions; anxiety, restlessness, agitation; insomnia, panic, nightmares; hypomania; exacerbation of psychosis.

Neurologic - Numbness, tingling, paresthesias of extremities; incoordination, ataxia, tremors peripheral neuropathy; extrapyramidal symptoms; seizures, alteration in EEG patterns; tinnitus.

Anticholinergic - Dry mouth and, rarely, associated sublingual adenitis; blurred vision, disturbance of accommodation, mydriasis; constipation, paralytic ileus; urinary retention,
delayed micturition, dilation of the urinary tract.

Allergic - Skin rash, petechiae, urticaria, itching, photosensitization (avoid excessive exposure to sunlight); edema (general or of face and tongue), drug fever, crosssensitivity with other tricyclic drugs.

Hematologic - Bone marrow depression, including agranulocytosis; eosinophilia; purpura; thrombocytopenia.

Gastrointestinal - Nausea and vomiting, anorexia, epigastric distress, diarrhea, peculiar taste, stomatitis, abdominal cramps, blacktongue.

Endocrine - Gynecomastia in the male and breast enlargement and galactorrhea in the female. Increased or decreased libido, impotence; testicular swelling; elevation or depression of blood
sugar levels; syndrome of inappropriate ADH (antidiuretic hormone) secretion.

Other Side Effects - Jaundice (simulating obstructive), altered liver function; weight gain or loss; perspiration; flushing; urinary frequency, nocturia; drowsiness, dizziness, weakness, fatigue;headache; parotid swelling; alopecia.
Though the Withdrawal Symptoms do not indicate addiction, abrupt stopping of treatment after prolonged therapy may produce nausea, headache, and malaise.

Imipramine Hydrochloride in the form of Generic Tofranil Tablets (Antidep) tablets is used to treat symptoms of depression. Compared to other depressive states Endogenous depression is more likely to be alleviated. A minimum of One to three weeks of treatment may be required for optimal therapeutic effects to be evident. Antidep tablets may also be used as a therapy for reducing enuresis (Bed wetting) in children aged 6 years and older, after all possible organic causes have been eliminated by conducting appropriate tests.


Generic Tofranil Tablets (Imipramine Hydrochloride) - Dosage


Endogenous Depression
In adults undergoing treatment of Endogenous depression it is 75 to 100 mg daily in divided doses. The dosage has to be a maximum of 200 mg/day for outpatients or 300 mg/day for inpatients. In the case of Elderly patients and adolescents it is 30 to 40 mg daily in divided doses subject to a maximum of up to 100 mg/day.
Functional enuresis
For Children undergoing treatment of Functional enuresis 25 mg daily 1 hour before bedtime. If necessary, increase by 25 mg/day at weekly intervals, up to 75 mg daily in children ages 12 and older or up to 50 mg daily in children younger than age 12.


Side Effects Of Generic Tofranil Tablets (Antidep)


The most common side effects of Generic Tofranil Tablets are dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, excitement, headache, impotence, nausea, nightmares, pupil dilation, sensitivity to sunlight, sweating, tiredness, upset stomach, vomiting, weakness Skin rashes, blood dyscrasiasand weight loss or gain. The rarely occurring side effects include Hypotension and changes in atrioventricular conduction time.
