Generic Norvasc Tablets (Amlopres) - Active Ingredient And Chemical structure

The active ingredient contained in Generic Norvasc Tablets (Amlopres) is Amlodipine Besylate. Norvasc (Amlodipine Besylate) Tablets are formulated as white tablets equivalent to 2.5, 5, and 10 mg of amlodipine for oral administration.
Amlodipine Besylate is a white crystalline powder which is slightly soluble in water and sparingly soluble in ethanol. The structure is shown below

Amlopres Tablets manufactured by Cipla Ltd., India is an effective treatment for Hypertension, Chronic stable angina and Vasospastic angina. Each uncoated tablet of Amlopres 2.5, 5 and 10 mg contains Amlodipine besylate equivalent to Amlodipine 2.5, 5 and 10 mg respectively. Norvasc Tablets which has the active ingredient Amlodipine is also sold as Stamlo which is manufactured by Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. and under various other brand names such as Amlovasc, Amdepin, Dailyvasc, Amlodine and Perivasc.

Generic Norvasc Tablets (Amlopres) - Dosage


Recommended starting dose for adults:
The recommended starting dose is 5 mg once daily, with a maximum dose of 10 mg once daily.Small, fragile or elderly individuals or patients with hepatic insufficiency may be started on 2.5 mg once daily and this dose may be used when adding amlodipine to other anti-hypertensive therapy.
Recommended starting dose for children:
The effective oral dose for hypertension in pediatric patients (6-17 years) is 2.5 mg to 5 mg once daily.


Side Effects Of Generic Norvasc Tablets (Amlopres)

The most common side effects of are headache and edema. Other adverse effects of Amlodipine Tablets (Amlopres) with an incidence rate greater than 1.0% are headache, fatigue, nausea, abdominal pain, and somnolence. Less common side effects that may occur are pruritus, rash, dyspnea, asthenia, muscle cramps and dyspepsia. Rarely, myocardial infarction and chest pain have been reported.
