Generic Amoxil (Amoxicillin) - Active Ingredient And Chemical structure

The active ingredient contained in Amoxil is Amoxicillin . Generic Amoxil (Novamox) contains Amoxicillin (Amoxycillin), a semisynthetic antibiotic which is an analog of ampicillin, with a broad spectrum of bactericidal activity against many gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms. Generic Forms and Brand names of Amoxil (Amoxicillin)

Novamox manufactured by Cipla Ltd., India is used to treat or prevent infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria. Amoxil which has the active ingredient Amoxicillin is also sold as Amoxiciline, Dispermox and Trimox and under various other brand names.


Generic Amoxil (Novamox) - Preparations

Novamox (Generic Amoxil) is available as capsules of 250 mg and 500 mg. Each Capsule of Novamox 250 mg and 500 mg contains Amoxycillin Trihydrate IP equivalent to Amoxycillin 250 mg and 500 mg respectively.


Novamox (Generic Amoxil)- Storage Requirements

Novamox Capsules are to be stored at room temperature (15°C to 30°C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Keep out of reach of children and pets.


Generic Amoxil (Amoxicillin) - Uses

Generic Amoxil (Amoxicillin) in the form of Novamox Capsules is used in the treatment of infections due to susceptible (only β-lactamase-negative) strains in the conditions listed below:

  • Infections of the ear, nose, and throat due to Streptococcus spp. (∝- and β-hemolytic strains only), S. pneumoniae, Staphylococcus spp., or H. influenzae.
  • Infections of the genitourinary tract due to E. coli, P. mirabilis, or E. faecalis.
  • Infections of the skin and skin structure due to Streptococcus spp. (∝- and β -hemolytic strains only), Staphylococcus spp., or E. coli.
  • Infections of the lower respiratory tract due to Streptococcus spp. (∝- and β-hemolytic strains only), S. pneumoniae, Staphylococcus spp., or H. influenzae.
  • Gonorrhea, acute uncomplicated (ano-genital and urethral infections) due to N.gonorrhoeae (males and females).
  • H. pylori eradication to reduce the risk of duodenal ulcer recurrence


Novamox (Generic Amoxil) - Dosage

The usual adult dose of Novamox capsules for Mild to Moderate intensity infection of Ear/Nose/Throat is 500 mg every 12 hours or 250 mg every 8 hours.In case of a Severe intensity infection of Ear/Nose/Throat it is 875 mg every 12 hours or 500 mg every 8 hours.
For Mild, Moderate or Severe intensity infection of Lower Respiratory Tract it is 875 mg every 12 hours or 500 mg every 8 hours.
Mild to Moderate intensity infection of Skin or Skin Structure is 500 mg every 12 hours or 250 mg every 8 hours. In the case of a Severe intensity Skin or Skin Structure infection it is 875 mg every 12 hours or 500 mg every 8 hours
Mild to Moderate intensity infection of Genitourinary Tract it is 500 mg every 12 hours or 250 mg every 8 hours
In the case of a Severe intensity Genitourinary Tract infection 875 mg every 12 hours or 500 mg every 8 hours
For Gonorrhea Acute,uncomplicated, ano-genital and urethral infections in males and females 3 grams as single oral dose.


Side Effects Of Generic Amoxil (Amoxicillin)

Novamox is a penicillin and should not be given to patients that are hypersensitive to penicillin. Chloramphenicol, macrolides, sulfonamides, and tetracyclines may interfere with the bactericidal effects of penicillin. The most common side effects of Generic Amoxil (Amoxicillin) are Skin rash, Diarrhoea and Nausea. Less common side effects that may occur are Vomiting, allergic reactions, Urticaria and pruritus. In addition certain side effects may occur extremely rarely to certain classes of patients.
